Cut 'n Color

I was in desperate need of a haircut and maybe some color; but I was too nervous to go to someone new. Kirsten's cousin gave me the name and number to her hair dresser so I called and made an appointment with Glen...how bad could it be right? Well it was fantastic! We talked about what needed to be done and he went to work...three hours later(a little too long for me but oh well)...I had shorter redder hair! I love it...I have received many compliments on it and can not wait to go back...or maybe I can...I forgot how expensive it was to go to a salon. Well here are the pictures of my new do...I tried to show the red but it was hard in the lighting of Lisa's room...but I am sure everyone gets the idea. Let me know what you think!

Printer Problems

Last week I found a great deal on a printer and Target. It is an Epson (not the best brand but not the worst either)and only 20 something dollars. It prints, scans, and copies...plus has all the slots for camera memory cards. I thought this was a great deal! And it was until I tried to set it up today to print out my references for a job interview tomorrow (with the Alumni Relations Office on campus). The printer came with everything EXCEPT the USB cord to connect it to the computer...ARE THEY FREAKIN" KIDDING ME?!?!?! At first I thought I of course picked the one printer that had the cable missing from the box but no no no...it small tiny print on the box it states "USB cable not included...must buy separately" Well thank you Epson for selling me a printer that can not print! I appreciate it immensely. Oh did I mention that I have well over a hundred pages of reading for my ONE class tomorrow. I think I am miserable today because I have had a headache on and off since yesterday and all I want to do is sleep but I can't I am dealing with life as a grad student at the moment.

...I obviously needed a little venting...now back to work I go!

Dead Until Dark

I started this book and had my doubts. Right off the bat there were a few similarities between the vampire/girlfriend situation found in Twilight. This irritated me beyond belief...but with Sabra's encouragement and realizing this book was published before the Stephenie Myers' books I had to continue on. I probably read a little more a day later but I just was not putting aside the time to read it. Well Sunday night I picked it up and said I was going to read for about an hour and the next thing I know it is 1:30 a.m. and I only have 60 pages or so to go. I went to sleep since I was exhausted but I completed the book Monday after class. I loved this book. It is not my favorite vampire book by far. But I like the differences that it brought to the table; murder, sex, mind reading...all that great stuff that comes with falling in love with a vampire. Bill (the vampire in this book) is no Edward Cullen but he will do for now! This is definitely a book to read if you are in the mood for something lite and fun...Thanks for the recommendation Sabra!

I am my MOTHER!

Well the other day I was at the grocery store and Giant Eagle had a buy one get one free sale on chicken breasts...even though I was walking I HAD to get them...can never pass up a sale that good right mom?!? Well today I was looking at our fridge/freezer and shelving (which looks like it came from Sam's) and noticed that it sort of looks like the kitchen situation at my mother's house. I am so sad to admit but I am truly becoming my mother! I guess I could turn out worse....right?

Their Eyes Were Watching God

Well I read this book in high school and I do not think I really gave it a chance because this time when I read it I just loved it. It was a great little story...it was hard to get use to reading so much southern slang...but once I got the hang of it I breezed through the book. It's only 194 pages or so...definitely a must read if you have never had to read it for school.

Brownies...from scratch

Now that I have my own apartment I have been cooking A LOT more than I ever thought I would. It has definitely made me start eating healthy...which could be a good thing. But I did have an indulgence the other day. HOMEMADE BROWNIES!! Kirsten showed me how to make brownies with frosting from scratch. They were fantastic...way too rich to eat without milk!! I hope that I start learning more things to make...more than the usual easy things I have been making myself to eat.

PS I love my George Foreman and Rice Cooker! Everyone should have one of each....oh and of course my mixer (you can see it in the pic...love it!)

Missing the Bus...so sad

Well today I was walking to the bus stop at 11:33 (for a 11:42 bus) talking to Sabra on the phone...the same as any other time I am trying to catch the bus. As I turned the corner a bus went by...but no way it was mine...that would mean that it was EARLY (and almost 10 minutes at that)! This is something that NEVER happens with the port authority buses around here...or so I thought. Well I waited till almost 11:55 and decided that it was the bus I was suppose to get on...dang it. Well I had to be at school by 12:30 and the next bus was not until 12:25...I would be late. So I walked to school today...more than 2 miles (in flip flops no less)!! Well when I arrived for my computing session at 12:25 I was sweaty, smelly, and my feet were killing me. I guess this was a lesson to make sure I am early for my bus so that I will not miss it when school classes actually start! LESSON LEARNED...

Another One...YEAH!

Well I recieved a tiny little black box on my porch last night and it was another MAC gift card for my birthday. THANK YOU KATIE!!! I have the best sisters in the world...or are they trying to tell me something...I need more makeup for this face??? Oh well I love it and with this one I am going to go look at some lip gloss. I have been using the same color for two tubes now. I think it is time for some CHANGE! Maybe I'll get some other crazy eyeshadows if I haven't spent it all on lip gloss. I love and miss you...thanks again!

Kabbalah

I went and got a library card on Monday and I checked out three books and two dvds. The first book I read was Kabbalah: a love story. I liked it well enough. It was a short read (194 pages) but some of the Jewish things they were making references to I did not understand. There were three different stories the author wrote about and I certainly did no understand the one from back in the day that had a lot about Jewish/Kabbalah teachings and what not. The more modern day love story I enjoyed a lot. I probably won't reccommend this book but it kept me entertained for a little while.

Next is...Their Eyes Were Watching God...which by the way I realized I already read in high school...but a reread is fine until my new vampire book gets into my library...it should be on its way!!

MAC!!!

Sabra gave me a MAC gift card for my birthday and I went online tonight and spent it. Thank you soooo much!!! I got a fragrance and two eyeshadows. The fragrance is the light blue one called Creation Hue: Turquatic....and the two eyeshadows are Shadowy Lady and Passionate. I wanted to put up pics but it was not cooperating with me. But thank you so much sissy....I love and miss you and can not wait to go crazy on my eyes!

Shady Side

This weekend Kristen came to town and Kirsten and I were finally moved in so it was time to go out and relax. Kirsten had a little house warming party and then we hit up a bar in Shady Side. It was so good to get a group of us W&J people together again...since it had been all summer long without them. Anyways here are a few pics!

Smelly Old Things

I hate doing dishes but I have gotten use to the wand...my sister introduced me quite sometime ago and they are not that bad. It is so much better than filling a sink up with water and all that mess. Well since I lived in a dorm and had no kitchen sink really the wand was a perfect match. Now that I live in my new apartment and have a real kitchen we now also use rags....and we have a wand. I used the rag today to wipe down the counters after I made waffles and shortly after leaving the kitchen I realized how much my hands stunk of wet rag!! I thought that it would go away and I went to fall back asleep and the smell was just everywhere. I had to run down and wash my hands real good with crazy smelling soap. I realized how much the smell of wet old rags makes me want to vomit! Isn't there a better alternative?

PS...Preston saw a rat run through our yard to our garbage...this should be fun! (GROSS)

Favorite Cayman Pics

Here are a few picture we took while on Grand Cayman. I had so much fun...we snorkeled, went to the sea turtle farm, swam with turtles and stingrays, went parasailing, and relaxed by the beach! It was a great vacation right before the big move, orientation, and then school...BLAH!

48 Hours

I had finished the book within two days of getting it but I was traveling and was unable to post about it. I LOVED IT!! It was a great end to a great story...that we all wished would never end. I am looking forward to the other books that follow The Host. I am sure they will be great as well!

Where is Bob the Builder When You Need Him?!?

A while ago Sabra suggested having Bobby come with me to Pittsburgh and help me get my stuff out of storage and in to my room on the third floor of my new apartment...he could have also helped me build all my new furniture from ikea too!! But I thought I could do it and it would be ridiculous for anyone to fly with me to help me. Well after three long days I have finally finished building and moving things into my room...well minus a few item I haven't gotten up here. I have built shelves, a dresser, nightstand, bed frame, desk, garment rack, installed a window A/C unit, and anything else you can think of!! I am tired and sore. Let me tell you if I have not lost any weight from walking these stairs I will be irritated. I have gotten most of my things in and arranged except for bathroom stuff, all my desk stuff, and decor! Well I am including picture of just my room tonight but I will get more of the rest of the apartment...inside and out.

These are the stairs of death from the second floor to the third floor which is my room (looking down from the top...imagine moving items up these babies!)

This is what you see when you get to the top of the stairs...my bed and the A/C I installed.

These two are what you would see to right of where you are standing when you walk up.

This is looking from across the room to where you are actually standing when you first come in and my small closet on the left...the top of the stairs.

I forgot to take and upload a pic of my barely there closet but in the pics it is the small dwarf door that all my purses are hanging on...hence the need for the rack in the other corner...plus I have some of Preston's clothes up here while he is living with us for another month! I will get more pictures up soon and some of my vacation in the Cayman Islands!!

Finally Finished!

All summer I have been trying to read The Constant Princess but just never could get into it. Well while I was on vacation I decided it was now or never and I devoured the book instantly...I could not put it down. I am looking forward to the other book The Virgin's Lover but I think I need another break from King Henry VIII but I am sure I will read it in the near future. I was searching all over the island for Breaking Dawn yesterday and they did not get it...so sad...BUT TODAY they had it...YEAH!!! After my 30 minutes of web time is up I will lock myself away in the room and read. John is making fun of me and telling me that his day will pretty much suck now since I will be reading but I can't help it. I HATE to read outside! The sun hurts my eyes...it's hot and humid...and uncomfortable. We have agreed (although I already knew) that I am not an outside kind of person...who would have guessed right?? It sure is funny considering we all grew up in Bard on a farm and none of us are outside kind of girls!

Cayman Islands

Well I haven't been able to blog because internet time isn't free here of course! I miss reading everyones blogs and updating my own. I will have plenty to write when I get back but I thought I would upload the pictures we had taken of us at Stringray City...it was so much fun!! Hope you enjoy...oh and they said it was 7 years GOOD LUCK to kiss one so we shall see how the next 7 years go for me! See everyone in Pittsburgh soon!!
